San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction: Can Zac Gallen and the Diamondbacks Get Hot Early?
How the mighty have fallen. The Giants finished with the best record in the MLB last season with a 107-55 record. Now, just before the all-star break, they are tied with the Orioles at 44 wins, just above .500.
At this pace, the Giants will miss the playoffs after winning the NL West last season. Still, they have a better record than the visiting Diamondbacks. The Giants now find themselves in a rubber match after taking yesterday's game 13-0 after scorching Dallas Keuchel early. Can the Giants close out the series with a win?

San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction
Today will be a bullpen game for the Giants. John Brebbia will open the game but will most likely go only one inning, so I'm not really using any of his stats as a key influencer in this game. The Giants bullpen is below league average on the year with a 4.22 ERA. Both Zack Littell and Tyler Rogers should be in this game before the first five innings, and both have been struggling recently. Littell has a 6.75 ERA over his last three appearances, and Rogers has a 4.5 ERA over his last three appearances. The only shutout reliever for the Giants in their previous three appearances is Jarlin Garcia.
The Giants are straight up slumping right now. They are 4-8 in July and 17-21 since the beginning of June. They have been dealing with injuries, which is part of the story, but the pitching has been an issue too. The Giants also are worse in day games, where they hit only .231, compared to .242 at night. Conversely, someone loves daytime starts, and that person is Zac Gallen.
Zac Gallen loves to pitch during the day and even prefers it over night starts. Gallen has a 1.75 ERA in six starts during the day over 36 combined innings and a 4.94 ERA in 10 night starts. Gallen is also one of the most profitable pitchers over the first five innings in the league with an 8-3-5 record, which means he is 13-3 on covering the half run. Today, the Diamondbacks are dogs, opening the opportunity on Gallen to cover the half run.
The Giants do not look like themselves at the moment, and despite a blowout win yesterday, Zac Gallen is a much different beast than Dallas Keuchel. The Giants are 2-7-2 over their last 11 first-five's and are now pitching a bullpen game. I'm taking Gallen and the underrated desert snakes to have this one at least tied after the first half.
