Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction

We have a very interesting matchup between the Athletics and Astros as Houston is very heavily favored, but I am eyeing a different angle on this game compared to the usual sides that I take.

Last Sunday we saw this matchup between Odorizzi and Irvin and it was essentially a pitching duel the whole way as the game was 1-0 entering the 5th inning and 2-0 entering the 7th before the bullpens got involved.

Cole Irvin is having a great year considering he is stuck on a bad team, but one thing he has really struggled with this season is performing well on the road. He comes into this game with a 1-5 record and a 5.27 ERA on the road. That’s not a terrible ERA, but when you compare that to his 1.68 ERA at home, you can see there is a huge disparity in his performance at the Oakland Coliseum compared to visiting ballparks.

On the other side for the Astros tonight will be Jake Odorizzi, who absolutely shut down the A’s in that matchup on Sunday, but I think we will see him come down to earth a bit here. In his first start back from injury at home against the Royals, he got absolutely lit up to the tune of 9 hits, and 5 earned runs across just 4 innings of work. The Astros would eventually win that game 7-6 thanks to a huge comeback, but the point remains that Odorizzi was not sharp in that game at all, and I expect that type of performance from him tonight.

So, where am I going with this handicap? I will be playing the F5 OVER 4 at -120 for 1U as my most confident MLB Pick of the night. I think we will see a much different game flow compared to the game we saw last Sunday between these 2 pitchers.
