2022 Home Run Derby Predictions
The home run derby has been controlled by Pete Alonso the last two years as he is the back-to-back champion. Pete is back in the derby this year and is the favorite, according to all sportsbooks. It is tough to fade a guy like Pete, but I will be looking elsewhere here due to value.
The second favorite to win the derby is the national league leader in home runs, Kyle Schwarber. Schrwaber inked a contract with the Phillies in the offseason, and it has been a great investment for Philly so far. Schwarber enters the all-star break with 22 home runs.
Ronald Acuna Jr and Juan Soto are two of the best young players in the game, and we will see them in action on Monday night. These guys both have odds of +600 for the derby. We will also see young star Julio Rodriguez in action, who has been a pivotal part of the Seattle Mariners' 14-game winning streak.
A couple of veterans, Corey Seager and Jose Ramirez, will also be participating, and both are long shots at winning the derby.
The man with the longest odds is the man with the most home runs in the derby, Albert Pujols. Pujols is in the final year of his legendary career, and it should be a lot of fun to watch the future Hall of Famer on Monday night.
Home Run Derby 2022 Expert Picks
I will be looking at a head-to-head matchup that I found on DraftKings. The matchup will be between Julio Rodriguez and Corey Seager in round one. I am backing the youngster Rodriguez to win the first-round matchup.
I love the value here on Julio to win the derby as well, but I am playing it safe here and trusting that he will win the round. He is a guy who plays the game with great energy, and he will be fired up for his first home run derby on Monday night. The ballpark should play to his strengths, leading to a big first-round number.
I am also sprinkling Rodriguez to make the finals at +425 and win the derby at +1000.
