The New York Mets host the Padres in the final game of their sereis tonight. Can the Padres end the sweep or will the Mets end their losing streak? Ben Rajavuori answers.

New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres Best Bet: Can Joe Musgrove and the Padres Dominate Early?

The Padres have come out of the all-star break locked in, and are now in a position to sweep the series in New York. The Mets went the first half with an impressive 58-35 record and are still in first place in the NL East despite a three-game losing streak. The Padres have taken the first two games behind two excellent outings from Yu Darvish and Blake Snell and now have another ace on the mound tonight in Joe Musgrove. Can the Padres end the sweep? Or will the Mets end their losing streak? Let's dive into my prediction, best bet, and odds for the game between the San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets.

Mets vs. Padres Line Movement

New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

Carlos Carrasco toes the rubber for the Mets tonight. Carrasco is 10-4 with a 4.27 ERA and has been much better this season than last. Carrasco was 1-5 with a 6.04 ERA in 2021, but the vet has turned it around in his 13th season. Carrasco has three good starts in July now, going 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA over those three starts, but this lineup will be the best he faces in July. Carrasco has one start against the Padres already this season, and he actually hit his season high in strikeouts, racking up 10 strikeouts while only allowing two runs in seven innings pitched. It was his third longest outing of the season, but Carrasco had been hit hard in previous meetings with the Padres before that good start this season, so it may have been partly a fluke.

Joe Musgrove will take the mound for the Padres tonight, and he has been excellent. Musgrove is currently the ace on the team and has the lowest ERA on the roster. He also has the 8th-lowest ERA in the league. He is 8-2 on the season with a 2.42 ERA, and the Padres are 12-4 in games started by Musgrove. More impressively, Musgrove has 14 quality starts in his 16 overall appearances. All this has made Musgrove a very profitable bet when backing him on the first-five line. Musgrove is 10-2-4 on the first-five line this season, meaning he is 14-2 on covering the half-run line as an underdog. Well, the Padres are slight dogs today, opening an opportunity on his 14-2 spot this season. That is where we will be heading for tonight's bet on Sunday night baseball.

The Padres have looked excellent in this series and are hitting .250 against right-handed pitchers on the road this season, which is well above the league average. The Mets haven't seen Musgrove yet this season, but the Padres have seen Carrasco already, giving another slight advantage to the visitors. Take the Padres to be tied or leading after five innings tonight.
