Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction
The Pirates and the Cubs will both likely be sellers at the trade deadline next week. These two teams came into the season knowing it would be a long shot for either to make the playoffs. The Cubs started the year rough but are currently playing their best brand of baseball. Chicago is enjoying a season-high five-game winning streak as we enter play this afternoon.
The Cubs have blown up their World Series team in the last couple of years, and the final piece of that team is expected to be moved by next week. Wilson Contreas had publicly said he does not want to leave Chicago, but it would be shocking if the Cubs did not move him for prospects. Contreras has had a great year as he was voted into the all-star game yet again this season.
Pittsburgh will look to bounce back this afternoon after losing to the Cubs 3-2 last night. The Cubs send Keegan Thompson to the mound, who has been the Cub's best arm this season. Thompson will be opposed by Bryse Wilson, who gets the ball for the Pirates.
I am backing a team total here as we are looking at the Cubs team total under, which is currently sitting at 4.5. This number is at plus money right now, and I can not pass up on this value. Wilson has not been great this season, but neither has this Cubs offense as a whole.
The Cubs rank nineteenth in the majors scoring 4.33 runs per game. They have been a better offense on the road this season than at home, and I believe they will win this game today, which will limit their offense to eight innings instead of nine. We will have to sweat this play out, I am sure, but we will cash this in and stay hot today!
