New York Mets vs. New York Yankees Prediction
Yankees fans aren't happy about this, but Domingo German will get the start for tonight's game against the Mets. German started a game after the All-Star break against the Astros to begin the second half of the season and allowed six hits and five runs, with two home runs, in three innings of work.
After that game, German had an xFIP of 7.67 and only struck out 11.1% of batters. It's a small sample size, and he's better than what he showed against Houston.
The Mets don’t have the best lineup against righties but should ultimately get the job done against German. The Mets are hitting a .170 ISO along with a .315 wOBA against righties with their projected lineup.
The Mets have limited strikeouts to under 19% and continue to hit a high rate of line drives against righties when they get the wood on the ball. The Mets figure to have some power against German between Pete Alonso, Daniel Vogelbach, and Brandon Nimmo, who all have solid power numbers against righties.

On the other hand, the Mets will send out Max Scherzer, who is 6-2 on the season with a 2.28 ERA. In the last 30 days, the former Cy Young has had a 2.54 xFIP with 40.2% of strikeouts. He's ultimately been hard to hit since returning from injury.
Still, the Yankees have been good against right-handed pitching recently. As a projected lineup, the Yankees have a .224 ISO and wOBA of .354 against righties, along with 12.3% of walks.
However, the tricky part is that the Yankees have also struck out 22.8% of the time against righties, and going against Scherzer should increase that number when all is said and done.
The Yankees are getting consistent power from Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Josh Donaldson, Matt Carpenter, Aaron Hicks, and Joey Gallo against righties. But when they take on Scherzer, things will be a bit harder.
With that said, I'm taking the Mets at -.5 in the first five innings at -120. The Mets should be able to score runs against German with the power that they showed off last night. A couple of runs could be enough with a locked-in Scherzer on the mound.
