Oakland Athletics vs. Houston Astros Prediction

The Houston Astros battle the Oakland Athletics taking place from the Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon for the final game of this three-game set. The Athletics have won the first two games of this series to the surprise of many, and they will be going for a rare sweep this afternoon.

Oakland is playing their best baseball of the season, coming off a series victory over the Texas Rangers. Houston is one of the best teams in baseball, and this series looked like it would be a walk in the park for them. It has been anything but that so far. Houston will look to get back on track this afternoon and salvage this series when they send Cristian Javier to the bump.

Javier has turned in a great year so far for Houston and is a large part of this team’s success. He comes into this game repping an ERA of just 3.13 and a record of 6-5. Cole Irvin will toe the rubber for Oakland this afternoon, looking to help get them the sweep. Irvin has been much better than his record indicates, with an ERA of 3.08. He has not gotten a lot of run support, however, as he represents a record of 5-7. 

I am backing Houston today on the -1 line and drinking some juice. This line is -165 right now, but this should be -250 in my eyes, so I see a ton of value. Let’s be honest; it would be shocking if Oakland swept Houston, especially with the pitching matchup we see this afternoon. This is one of the more “square” bets I have taken this season, but sometimes you can not overthink a pick.

The Astros are a top three team in baseball, and Oakland has the worst roster in my eyes. I expect their bats to get rolling early and get into this Oakland bullpen. Javier has been great, and he should dominate this game from start to finish facing an offense as weak as Oakland. I am all in on a Houston bounce back this afternoon.
