Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction

On Thursday night, the Seattle Mariners battle against the Houston Astros taking place from Houston, Texas. This will be game one of this AL West affair. Houston has had the number of the Mariners as of late, coming off a sweep when these two teams played just a week ago. Seattle is off a sweep of their own as they beat up on the Texas Rangers to kick off their week.

Houston was shockingly swept by the Oakland Athletics, who are one of the worst teams in all of baseball. This might have been the most surprising sweep of the season, and Houston will look to get the sour taste out of their mouth tonight. Despite being swept by Oakland, this has been one of the best teams in baseball this season. This team does not skip a beat despite losing some of their best players over the last few years. Some people thought when George Springer and Carlos Correa left the team that the Astros would take a step back, but that has not been the case.

Seattle has enjoyed the best run in baseball over the last month, jumping into the second Wild Card seed in the American League. This is a dangerous team that continues to get healthier and better as the season goes on. Julio Rodriguez has taken the league by storm this season, flexing his muscle as the best rookie in all of baseball. Tonight we will see two good arms on the mound as Logan Gilbert gets the call for the Mariners. Opposing him will be Jose Urquidy.

I will be backing the Astros on the moneyline tonight. I am not going to get too cute here, as Houston has owned Seattle as of late. Logan Gilbert has had an above-average season, but this is not his best matchup.

The Astros best hitters have had successful numbers against Gilbert in their career. Jose Altuve is batting .438 against Gilbert in his career, while Alex Bergman is hitting .429. Kyle Tucker has enjoyed success against Gilbert as well, hitting .364. This is also a perfect bounce-back spot for Houston, who is coming off their worst series of the season. I expect their bats to get hot early and cruise to a win tonight.
