Chicago White Sox vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction

What a game we had last night in Chicago (AL). Oakland had a dominant pitching performance from Paul Blackburn, of all people who shut out the White Sox for five innings, but the bullpen blew it in dramatic fashion with a walk-off wild pitch. When you look at that lineup, Oakland has been playing well, and trust us; you wonder how they do it because there isn't a scary guy in it.

Today we have another one-sided pitching matchup. Dylan Cease, 10-4 with a sick 2.03 ERA, goes for the Sox, and if it weren't for Shane McClanahan (TB), people would be talking more about Dylan's year, but today he faces Adam Oller, who is 1-3 with a more than generous 8.07 ERA. Oller has really not been that bad recently, but he will last five innings max, and this game will come down to that same Oakland bullpen that blew the game yesterday.

How good is Cease? In his last five starts in July, he is  4-1 with a minuscule .61 ERA. In June, he was only 2-1 with a .33 ERA in five starts. He has given up a total of three earned runs in his last ten starts. No one has been better and even better in his last three starts; he hasn't given up a run at all. As the old saying goes, if you can't score, you can't win. With a guy pitching this well and Oakland is 29th or 30th in pretty much every offensive category, we feel that Oakland will score zero or one run only against this stud today.

We know about Cease, but Oller is coming off his first career win against the Astros, and he should have some confidence going into today's game. The Sox are missing a few key guys, but Tim Anderson will play as his suspension hearing is still pending. We don't expect the White Sox to score many runs today, but they only need three or four off Oller to give Cease all the support he needs. Oakland knows they won't win games by bashing or outscoring you. Even though their offense recently has been better than it was all year, they haven't faced anyone like Cease, who is currently on a 20 2/3 scoreless streak.

Oakland was never playing for this season, while the White Sox are in a very weak AL Central and are only three games out, and the Wild Card is much further away, so winning against teams they have to beat is very important to stay in the race. There is a reason the White Sox are -270  in this game, but we feel the Sox can win by more than one run, so we will get rid of the juice and lay the -1.5 run line -128 currently at Fanduel and let's hope Cease keeps this scoreless streak going or if not that Oller gives up his usual amount of runs. Lay the -1.5 today with the White Sox, and let's end the month with a winner.
