St. Louis Cardinals vs. Washington Nationals Prediction

The St. Louis Cardinals battle against the Washington Nationals taking place from our nation's capital on Sunday afternoon. The series is split so far, and one of those two teams will come away with a series win today.

The Cardinals currently sit one game behind the Phillies for the final Wild Card spot in the National League. Washington, on the other side of things, is counting down the days till the season is over.

Washington had had an odd transition since winning the World Series in 2019. They lost two of their three best players from that team when Anthony Rendon inked a contract with the Angels, and they traded young star Trea Turner. It is now looking like they will be moving on from generational talent Juan Soto. The Nats went from baseball royalty to the basement in lightning speed. The haul back for Soto could be record-setting if he is to be dealt before the deadline next week. The Nats will likely move on from veterans Josh Bell and Nelson Cruz as well. Needless to say, their team is likely not focused at the moment.

For St. Louis, it is all business as they gear up for a playoff run. There are about two months left in the regular season, and they have a chance to be a postseason team. This above-average offense will need their pitching to step up the rest of the year. Today they hand the ball to Andrew Pallante, who comes into this game supporting a record of 3-4 and an ERA of 3.53. Opposing Pallante will be Josiah Gray, who holds a 7-6 record and an ERA of 4.45.

I will take the road team on the moneyline in the St Louis Cardinals today. These two teams are on completely different paths, and I doubt the National's current roster cares about the result of today's game. There will be multiple players from this team in a new uniform next week.

St. Louis, meanwhile, needs to win these kinds of games. They are fighting for a playoff spot, and if you lose two of three to one of the worst teams in baseball will put you in a hole. Pallante has been above average this season, and I trust that he can turn in a solid outing today.

Gray should be out of this game by the fifth or sixth inning, and that is when St. Louis should take advantage. The Nationals have one of the worst bullpens in all of baseball. After a disappointing loss last night, this should be a good bounce-back spot for the Red Birds. Let’s stay hot!
