Cleveland Guardians vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction

The Guardians head back home for a series against the Diamondbacks after beating the likely AL Cy Young winner in Shane McClanahan on Sunday. How were they able to be so successful against McClanahan? They simply put the ball in play. The Guardians are a team who don’t have a ton of power like the Yankees or the Astros etc., but one thing the Guardians do exceptionally well is put the ball in play.

The Guardians average the least amount of strikeouts per game this season, so why will this be important tonight? They will be facing the crafty Zach Davies, who thrives off of overzealous teams swinging for the fences and making weak contact, but the Guardians should be able to have great success against Davies based on their team approach on offense.

Davies doesn’t have overpowering stuff and lives on the corners to all sides of the plate, and the Guardians are very patient with more of a line drive approach compared to teams like the Braves or the Brewers, who hit a lot of home runs but also strikeout a lot. This approach should lead to a lot of traffic on the base paths and more line drives off the bat against Davies, who has gotten hit very hard in a few starts this year against similarly constructed lineups like the Padres or the Mets.

On the other side for Cleveland tonight will be Cal Quantrill, who has done some of his best work at home this season. He comes into this game with a 5-0 record at home and an ERA just above 3.00. Quantrill has only lost 1 first five all season at home, so he has performed very well in his comfort zone, and another thing that just can’t be explained is how well the Guardians hit while he is pitching. The Guardians have provided Quantrill with some of the most run support in the entire league, so I am also hoping that continues tonight as well. With that being said, I am rolling with Guardians F5 ML at -145 and Guardians Full Game -1 at -110 for 1U each as my most confident MLB Picks of the night.
