Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets Prediction
The Mets are sporting a strong 64-37 through the first 101 games of the season. They are preparing for the homestretch of the season here, and playing Washington tonight is a great way to start. The Nationals nearly mirror the Mets record but are worse at 35-68 and continue to get slaughtered by good teams.
Patrick Corbin has been a very consistent arm in the league as far as making his starts goes, but this season has been abysmal for the two-time All-Star. He is sporting a record of 4-14, leading the league in losses and a brutal combination of a 6.49 ERA and 1.77 WHIP to go along with it. Corbin has a chance to face disaster against every team he faces, but a strong lineup on a motivated team like this one really can get after him.
It does Washington no favors that Max Scherzer has the ball for the Mets, and Mad Max has continued to keep doing his thing this season despite the missed time. Scherzer is 6-2 with a 2.08 ERA, 11.41 K/9, and sub-one WHIP at 0.90. The man is fueled by emotion on the mound, and I can guarantee you no part of him wants to lose to this Washington team tonight. It’s gonna take a really weird game for the Mets to not take this one.
