Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros Prediction

The Red Sox have had an odd season so far, starting off as a team under the .500 mark and then going on one of the best runs of any team this season.

They followed up that great run with a disappointing one and now they have won three games in a row. It is not often that the Red Sox enter August dead last in their division, but that is the case this season. The crazier thing is the fact that the Sox are just two games out of a playoff spot.

Boston was a rare combination of buyers and sellers at the deadline as they added Tommy Pham and Eric Hosmer to their roster. They let go of catcher Christian Vazquez who will be a free agent after the season. Vazquez was acquired by the team they are playing today, the Houston Astros.

Houston was active at the deadline, also landing first baseman Trey Mancini from the Orioles. It is likely both Mancini and Vazquez will make their first starts for Houston this afternoon. The Astros are one of the best teams in the American League and are currently enjoying an eleven-game lead in the AL West. They will look to avoid the sweep today at home.

I will be shocked if Houston gets swept today. This is a much better team that should come out with something to prove. I think Houston has the better arm in Jose Urquidy and that their lineup should tee off today. The Sox will send young right-hander Brayan Bello to the bump. He is one of their top prospects but has struggled at the big league level so far. He is 0-3 with an era of 8.83.

While I think he is better than his numbers suggest, he is a fade until he proves otherwise. This is an experienced lineup that should be able to take advantage of the youngster today. I love this spot for Houston. Let’s cash in!
