Cincinnati Reds vs Miami Marlins Odds, Picks, Predictions: Can Possible Cy Young Sandy Alcantara Dominate?
It's Wednesday and there's nothing better to do on a Wednesday than gamble. Everyone knows that. Obviously, we're getting daytime action since there are daytime games. Nobody wants these guys playing for nothing. But before I get down on the day games, I like to lock in a nighttime bet. Why? Because it's the smart thing to do.
What's going to happen is we're going to get all hyped up during our day bets and then completely forget to even look at the night games. Then, we're going to get wild and just throw out a YOLO. That's fine and all (obviously), but it's nice to have a banger just waiting for us when the sun starts to set. It just feels right. The issue tonight is the fact that there are only a handful of games but we can't let that stop us. Lucky for us, I crunched every number that can be crunched and I found absolute gold. This bet will likely get us all into the Gambling Hall of Fame. Again.

Sandy Alcantara Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+140) (Bet $100 to win $140)
This gem is hanging at DraftKings right now and should stay there for a bit because of all the day games today. People aren't thinking about 6:40 pm ET when they've got daytime action. That's just not how people work. If you can't play at DraftKings, then go to FanDuel. They have 7.5 (+112) which isn't as good but it's still action. At the end of the day, we need action.
Here's the thing. I don't want to take anybody to strike out eight people. I really don't. But if I was going to take anybody to do it, it would be Sandy Alcantara. I know he's only got 569 strikeouts in 636.2 innings pitched over his career but I don't care. He's still a strikeout guy in my book. Plus the Marlins let him pitch as long as he wants. In his last 14 games, he's thrown 100+ pitches in 12 of them. That feels like a lot. The more pitches you throw, the more opportunities for strikeouts. That's just a little math.
Even though this guy is allowed to pitch all night, the haters are going to say 7.5 is still too much. That's where they're wrong. It's actually not too much. Especially when you consider the fact that Alcantara fanned 10+ guys in three of his five starts in July. The times he didn't were against the New York Mets so those starts don't even count. Nobody in their right mind would have ever bet him to go 8+ against them. I know I wouldn't have and you wouldn't have either.

Tonight, our Sandy won't have to worry about a team that doesn't strike out because he's got the Cincinnati Reds. Those guys are addicted to striking out. Over the last week, only three teams in MLB have struck out more than they have. We're talking 69 strikeouts in 229 at bats here, people. That's bad. Their lineup was already littered with whiff artists but with Aristides Aquino back in town, there's another name to add to the list (46.8% on the season).
Just last night he made up three of the 15 Cincinnati Reds' strikeouts. Honestly, we could probably ladder Alcantara against this team.
