Cardinals vs Cubs Line Movement

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction

Miles Mikolas is having an excellent comeback season. He is 8-8 with a 2.86 ERA, and that ERA lowers to 2.31 at home. Mikolas also have an extremely noticeable day and night split. He is 2-5 in day starts with a 4.36 ERA, but a much better 6-3 with a 1.83 ERA in night starts.

In fact, Mikolas has the second-best ERA in the league in night starts, behind only Martin Perez. Mikolas has had four straight quality starts at home and he faces a Cubs team that he just pitched six innings against with only one earned run back on June 25th. This will be Mikolas' second start against the club this year and he has had excellent numbers against the team in his tenure.

In the other dugout will be lefty Justin Steele. Steele is 4-7 on the season with a 3.86 ERA. Steele started the year rough, as he had an ERA over five in April and May. Since then, he has lowered it but has still had a few rough starts here and there. Steele has one start against the Cardinals this year and it was a gem. He went seven innings with only one earned run in that outing. However, that outing was at home and Steele has a much worse 4.71 ERA on the road. The Cardinals are also a nasty matchup for Steele.

The Cubs lineup is third in all of baseball with a .782 OPS against left-handed pitching. They have been crushing southpaws all year and have another excellent opportunity to do so tonight. The Cardinals have hit .386 over their last ten games against left-handed pitching with an average of 9.36 runs per nine innings.

Mikolas has been on a tear in his night games, and the Cardinals have knocked lefties around all season. Steele isn't someone I expect to hold down this high-powered offense, even if he has looked good the last few months. I'm taking the Cardinals to be leading after five innings here tonight.
