Nationals vs Phillies Prediction

The juice is steep, but hear me out. Syndergaard should dazzle in his debut. Fading the Nationals without Soto feels like a new tradition. Haters will tell you that they have scored 10 runs without him in their two games. What they won’t mention is how they’ve only scored 1 run in the first 5 innings of those two games combined.

In one game, Mychal Givens completely forgot what sport he was playing and allowed 5 runs and in the other, they beat up on a guy named Stephen Nogosek, luckily for us, I don’t think that’s a real person.

In all seriousness, starting pitching has been dominating the Sotoless Nats. Syndergaard should be motivated to show his new team what he’s all about and his pitching outs reflect that at 17.5. He should be out there for the entirety of our first 5-bet and we have the pitching advantage against Paolo Espino.

At first glance, Espino has good numbers, but they are inflated because he’s a much better bullpen arm than a starter. As a starter, Espino has allowed 4+ earned runs in 4 of his last 6 games.

The Phillies have the better bats and should have a more motivated and talented pitcher. We just need to lead by 1 after 5 innings. Espino allowed 4 runs in just 3.2 innings pitched against this same Phillies team a month ago. If he replicates that performance I’m confident that Syndergaard can allow 3 or less.

The Nationals without Soto are a sad team all in all and I think box scores will reflect that sooner rather than later. Whenever we bet the Phillies they usually fight hard for us, let’s revisit an old friend and see if they’re still the gift that keeps on giving!
