MLB expert Jason Radowitz wants to see if the Padres belong with the Dodgers. Come find out his play of the day between San Diego and Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Odds, Picks, Prediction: Will the Padres Prove They Belong?

The San Diego Padres are plenty of games out of first place in the NL West. However, the Padres still made a ton of trade deadline moves to compete against the Los Angeles Dodgers and other big teams in the National League.

Tonight, the Padres get to prove themselves against the Dodgers with their new and improved lineup. The lineup doesn't have Fernando Tatis Jr. just yet, but with Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Brandon Drury, the lineup is very much improved.

Can the Padres prove to the Dodgers that they also belong in World Series conversations? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Friday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres.

Dodgers vs. Padres Line Movement

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

Tony Gonsolin will take the hill for the Dodgers in the series' first game. Gonsolin has a 12-1 record with a 2.41 ERA on the season.

But he really hasn't been that good recently. In the last 30 days, Gonsolin has had a 4.38 xFIP with just 20.2% of strikeouts. He's also allowing 46.4% of hard contact and has struggled badly against righties, giving up a .365 wOBA and ISO of .262 to his last 45 righties faced.

Most of the powerful bats in the lineup for the Padres are left-handed, however, Manny Machado and Brandon Drury are two right-handed bats with plenty of potential.

Still, Gonsolin has given up 28.6% of line drives to his last 49 lefties faced, giving Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Jake Cronenworth some potential as well for the Padres. Once this offense gets comfortable, they'll be a starting pitcher's worst nightmare.

On the other hand, the Dodgers have already been a pitcher's worst nightmare this season. The Dodgers are hitting a .279 ISO and wOBA of .364 with their projected lineup against lefties in the last 30 days.

With lefty Sean Manaea on the mound, the Dodgers should be able to match the Padres or potentially outdo them. Manaea is 6-5 with a 4.25 ERA on the season. However, in the last 30 days, he has a 4.57 xFIP with 19.8% of strikeouts. He's also allowed 26.1% of line drives in that same time frame.

The Dodgers are getting elevated ISO numbers from every single batter in the lineup but Will Smith against lefties. Meanwhile, Manaea has been giving up a ton of power to both sides of the plate in the last 30 days.

Therefore, I'm liking the over in tonight's game. Both lineups are intriguing against their matchups and should each be able to score five runs.
