Chicago Cubs vs Miami Marlins Pick

1u - Drew Smyly u5.5 Hits Allowed (-141) (Bet $141 to win $100)

*Odds available at Caesars at time of publishing*

This one starts very soon so make sure to get this bet in right away. Smyly is a guy we don’t often back but there’s good reason to tonight, where do I begin? First off, he has allowed 5 hits or below in 9/13 starts so this has 69.2% hit rate. Secondly, he is facing the Miami Marlins. I don’t want to disrespect the franchise but they have been less than good lately. Miami has scored six runs total in their four games in August. You could argue they’re due but I think they struggle one more night because they’re facing a lefty.

Chicago Cubs vs Miami Marlins Prediction

The Marlins bat just .215 on the season against lefties. If that trend continues that would project Smyly to allow his sixth hit against the 28th batter, he would be lucky to see 20 today. Miami hasn’t hit a lefty for 6+ hit since Patrick Corbin on July 4th and that could be the second worst lefty at allowing hits in the league only trailing Keuchel. Corbin has allowed 6+ hit in 14 of his last 15 games so the last lefty that was respectable that allowed 6+ hits was even further back probably in June or May, Miami just can’t hit them.

Smyly has this fun upside of being able to be pulled early. We can win this bet because he’s absolutely dealing or we can win this bet because he’s struggling through an inning and gets puller. We’ve seen Smyly allow 5 hits in his first 60 pitches but get pulled early because he looks rough, it’s fun that we can hit this bet in different ways, making it worth the juice. I’ll keep this one nice and short because the game starts soon but let's start our Saturday with a winner!
