ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction, Picks, Odds: Can Mike Clevinger Get Run Support?

The Los Angeles Dodgers proved that they were still the best team in the NL West last night, earning an 8-1 victory, at home, in the first game of the weekend series. The Padres made a ton of trades at the trade deadline but ultimately, it's going to take some time for everything to come together for the Padres. After all, San Diego is basically fighting for an NL Wild Card spot.

Will the Padres get redemption and earn one back in tonight's game? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Saturday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres.

Dodgers vs. Padres Line Movement

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

San Diego will send out Mike Clevinger for tonight's game. He's 3-3 with a 3.13 ERA on the season. However, in the last 30 days, Clevinger has had a 4.44 xFIP. He's been a bit worse than his ERA indicates. We'll start with the bad. Clevinger has allowed 25% of line drives while only earning 33.3% of ground balls in the last 30 days. The good news is that he’s limited walks to just 4% and is earning 22.8% of strikeouts in that same time frame. Ultimately, you get the good and the bad with Clevinger. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have a .203 ISO and wOBA of .336 against righties in the last 30 days with their projected lineup. Remember, the Dodgers are able to platoon multiple positions to get the best matchups possible. This mostly left-handed lineup for the Dodgers has limited strikeouts to 19.9% and has walked 11% of the time against righties in the last 30 days. The lefties with power potential include Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Joey Gallo, and Gavin Lux. Clevinger has been way worse against lefties in the last 30 days.

Meanwhile, it'll be Andrew Heaney taking the hill for the Dodgers. Heaney's been injured for most of the year. However, in the last 30 days, the lefty has a 4.19 xFIP with 32.4% of strikeouts. On the season, he’s 1-0 with a .77 ERA. But again, he's thrown in five games this year. Still, we got to give him credit for a .77 ERA through five games. However, since returning to the mound, Heaney has allowed nearly 15% of walks in the last 30 days while giving up 29.4% of line drives. His ERA is going to start to inflate the more he does this. The Padres are hitting a .212 ISO and wOBA of .403 against lefties in the last 30 days with their projected lineup. In this lineup, only Wil Myers looks like a liability right now, as he has struggled against lefties since returning from the injured list. However, he doesn't have a fair sample size right now against lefties. Anyway, those who do have a solid sample size for the Padres are all hitting a wOBA of at least .350 each against lefties in the last 30 days. Newly acquired bats like Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Brandon Drury, had all destroyed lefties with their old teams and nothing should change with them on the Padres. I love this Padres lineup, especially against lefties, and believe Heaney is due for some regression. Plus, the Dodgers are always one of the more consistent offenses in baseball. With that said, I'm taking Over 9 in this matchup. We got nine yesterday, winning yesterday's bet. Let's get 10 today and win our bet again.
