Seattle Mariners vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction
The Angels picked up Tucker Davidson from the Braves, and he makes his first start for the team today. Davidson is 1-2 with a 6.46 ERA on the season with a few bad starts and a few good. Davidson is coming off an outing at home against the Marlins where he allowed one earned run in five innings pitched, but the start before that, he pitched 2.2 innings against the Phillies and was blown up for five runs. He either is on his game or gets hit hard. Davidson is a four-seam fastball and slider pitcher, throwing either of the two 80% of the time. Davidson has yet to find his footing in the MLB, and this is a tough Mariners lineup to face at home.
The Mariners are having a tough series so far, but before that, they went into Yankee Stadium and stole two games to win the series, ultimately scoring 17 runs over the three games. Their offense has been picking up, and they have also been hitting lefties better than righties. In their last ten games, the Mariners are hitting .220 against left-handed pitchers and only .190 against right-handed pitchers. The Mariners have been hitting left-handed pitching better all season too, so I expect them to hit around a shaky left-handed starter like Davidson.
The Mariners will send out lefty Marco Gonzales. Gonzalez is 4-5 on the season with a 3.95 ERA, which lowers slightly to 3.55 at home. Gonzales does do much better during the day, however, as he is one of the best pitchers in the league with a 3.00 ERA in day starts. Gonzales has pitched against the Angels many times and has excellent numbers against them. Most recently, he pitched six innings with two earned runs on the road against the Angels in June.
In his last start against the Angels before that, he pitched another six innings with only two earned runs. Gonzales has been consistent against the Angels, so I expect him to pick up another quality start here at home. Take the Mariners to finish off the series with a win.
