New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction

The Philadelphia Phillies battle the New York Mets taking place from Queens on a summer Saturday night for game two of this NL East affair. The Phillies pulled off a big upset last night when they took down the Mets 2-1 in extra innings.

The Phillies were led by a strong outing from southpaw Ranger Suarez paired with a great outing from the bullpen. Max Scherzer was great for the Mets, but his offense let him down as he went seven innings allowing just one run.

The Mets look like they are in command to win the NL East, but the Phillies appear to be a playoff team. They have been a top three team in baseball since late May and are a team that nobody wants to run into come October. The scary part is that they are doing all of this without reigning MVP Bryce Harper. Harper was hit in the hand by a pitch from Blake Snell and has been out ever since. Reports indicate Harper will be back in the coming weeks.

The Phillies were also missing Kyle Schwarber last night, who has been the best power bat in the National League this season. If you are Philly, you have to feel as if the job is well done. A split facing Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom has to feel good, and tonight, they will be playing with house money. deGrom has been outstanding this season since returning from the injured list. I firmly believe deGrom is the best pitcher this game has ever seen and is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams.

I am backing the Mets on the -1 line tonight. It pains me to go against my Phillies, but sometimes you have to for the money. Philly did their good job last night, and a split between two of the best arms in baseball is a plus. deGrom is deGrom, and I expect him to go out and shove tonight. The Phillies lineup is not at full strength, and I will be shocked if they got to him tonight. The Mets offense should be able to put some runs on the board against Nola after a lackluster offensive night last night. I love this spot for the Mets and will for once cheer against my Phillies tonight.
