Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Prediction
The Red Sox hit a season low when they dropped to last place in the AL east, even being surpassed by the Orioles. However, they can still make it to the playoffs with a wild card spot, as the AL East is a heated race below the Yankees. This series will be massive for the momentum of the Red Sox. The game will be in Michael Wacha's hands to start.
Michael Wacha is 6-1 on the season with a 2.69 ERA and has been excellent in Fenway Park. At home, he is 3-1 with a 1.39 ERA in six starts on the season. The Red Sox are 9-4 when Wacha starts, and he has been a reliable piece of the rotation for the team. Unfortunately, the Red Sox were without Wacha for the month of July, as he was out for over six weeks with a shoulder injury. This will be his first start since the injury, so he may have a limited pitch count. Either way, the Red Sox are pleased to have him back on the mound.
Jameson Taillon toes the rubber for the Yankees. Taillon is 11-2 on the season with a 3.95 ERA, and the Yankees are 17-5 in games started by Taillon. Taillon started the year extremely strong, going the month of April with a 3.26 ERA and then a 2.01 ERA in May. Since then, though, he has regressed a bit, as he had a 5.04 ERA in July and a 6.17 ERA over his first two starts in August. He does pitch slightly worse on the road as well, as his road ERA rises to 4.39. Taillon's last start in Fenway Park didn't go as expected, as he was hit for six runs in five innings. Taillon did bounce back in his next start against the Red Sox, but that was at home, and he has shown to struggle worse in Fenway Park historically.

The Yankees had the best record in baseball for a good portion of the year, but they have been slowing down in the second half. They are below .500 over the past six weeks and 2-8 over their last ten. The Red Sox have looked good in this series so far, and they are getting one of their best pitchers back for this game tonight. Taillon has been slowing down along with the rest of the team, and his last time in Fenway, he got rocked. I'm taking the Red Sox to be tied or leading after five tonight.
