Miami Marlins vs. San Diego Padres Prediction
The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins will clash from the sunshine state tonight for game two of this series. The Marlins took game one in a pitcher's duel that was won by Cy Young favorite Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara was as advertised in game one, going seven shutout innings against one of the premier lineups in baseball. Joe Musgrove was good for the Padres but could not get any run support.
The Padres made headlines at the deadline as they added multiple All-Stars in Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Josh Hader. They also landed Brandon Drury, who is having a career year and hit a grand slam in his first at-bat as a Padre. Things were looking up for San Diego, but then they got some bad news on Friday night. All-Star shortstop and one of the best players in baseball Fernando Tatis Jr. was suspended for PED use. This came as a shock to many as Tatis has been recovering from an injury he sustained from a motorcycle accident in the off-season. Tatis inked a fourteen-year three hundred and forty million dollar deal with the Padres a season ago. Many are concerned with the maturity of Tatis, including the Padres GM coming out with a statement this week. This is a massive blow for the Padres, but they still have a top-notch team that will be able to compete for a World Series.
The Marlins have had a tough season and will not be a postseason team barring a miracle. This is a team that just has not been able to produce offensively this year.
I am backing San Diego to bounce back today after that loss yesterday. This is a top-five offense in baseball, and after being shut out, they will come out with a chip on their shoulder. Sean Manaea gets the ball for the Padres, and he is more than due to bounce back. He now faces a benign lineup in the Marlins that he should be able to handle with relative ease. If the Padres bats can get going early like I believe they will, we should cruise to a victory here. These are huge games for the Padres as they fight for playoff position and games that they need to win. Let’s stay hot tonight!
