Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction
What a season it has been for both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox it seems gave up when they made a few trades but yet they are really still fighting for a playoff spot, even with their record being under .500 they are still only six games out. The Toronto Blue Jays are in the playoffs currently as they fight Tampa Bay for the number one Wild Card spot.
You don’t throw the name Ross Stripling out usually when you hear about one of the best pitchers in the league, but this guy has been great for the Blue Jays this year with an amazing 2.93 ERA and has only given up six home runs and 15 walks in 89 innings. If he had not been on the injured list he would definitely have a much better record than he currently does (5-3).
Ross Stripling has been great. He just recently beat the Red Sox 8-4 in Fenway back in July (he has given up two runs in both of his starts against the Sox in June and July). The Blue Jays have beaten the Red Sox six out of the last seven times and the last five times they have played each other in Boston.
The Blue Jays are facing John Winckowski. Some of you are saying who? John is a rookie who is under .500 (5-6) with a 5.19 ERA and he has given up more hits than innings pitched which is never a good sign for a pitcher, but when the Red Sox are beat up at pitching they have to throw who they have available and this guy may one day turn into a good starter but right now in his rookie season he is nowhere near Ross Stripling’s level.
The Blue Jays pitching has been great in their last five games they’ve only allowed three earned runs in 30 innings and their bullpen has pitched well as they almost swept the Yankees and beat the red-hot Orioles. The whole team has only given up nine runs in the last five games which is why the Blue Jays' pitching has now become one of the top pitching staffs in the league. We already know their offense is one of the tops in the league. Currently, number two in batting average, number six in runs scored, and number four in OPS. We also know Bogaerts and Hosmer are potentially out tonight which makes our case even stronger for the Blue Jays to win tonight.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said, "we are pitching really really really well". He knows his team needs to pitch well to continue the run at making the playoffs. Ross Stripling has been great all year and he is coming off an almost perfect game against the Orioles (6 1/3 giving up one hit). I feel we have a huge advantage here as big John Winckowski got shellacked in his last start giving up six runs on seven hits in five innings to the high-powered (sarcastic) offense of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
We can always go first five if you want as well but we are going to take the Blue Jays -135 to win tonight in Boston. Maybe Jackie Bradley Jr. will even teach the Red Sox a little lesson after being released by the Red Sox earlier this year with a few hits for us as well. Take the Jays tonight and you will be happy you did when the game is over.
