Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies Odds, Picks, and Prediction: Can Matt Olson, Braves Score Runs Tonight?
The Rockies travel to Truist Park in Atlanta tonight to open a three-game series against the Braves. The Rockies are 1-4 in their past five, and it looks like they will miss the postseason once again. The Braves, conversely, look like their 2021 championship selves and will almost certainly be in the postseason, either as the NL east winners or a wild card team. The Braves are 3-2 over their last five and most recently dropped back-to-back games in St. Louis. However, it is not either of these teams that I want to back tonight, but rather the total. Come check out my prediction, pick, and odds for tonight's game.

Atlanta Braves vs. Atlanta Rockies Prediction
Jose Urena will get the ball to start for the Rockies tonight. Urena has yet to make a wave in the MLB. This is his first season with the Rockies after eight years in the MLB, and he has not really been a standout any year. He has shown flashes of good starts, like when he went back-to-back against the Dodgers and Padres after being traded and only allowed three runs in 12.2 innings over the two starts combined, but he now has a 7.88 ERA in August after his last start.
The Rangers piled on nine runs in just 1.1 innings off Urena in his previous start, and that is a real confidence-knocker for the 30-year-old. More often than not, he is giving up four-plus runs in his starts and making it barely six innings. Could he turn it around tonight?
The odds are not likely. The Braves have the fourth-highest runs scored per game in the league and are second overall in team OPS at .762. The Braves have also historically hit well off Urena, as even Eddie Rosario, batting .190 on the season, is .400 off Urena in his six plate appearances. The Braves hitters are a combined .310 off Urena with a .903 OPS.
The Braves have also been crushing the ball over the past week, as they are .317 with 7.8 runs per nine innings. I think they will crush Urena tonight for at least 3-4 runs; then, after that, they face a shaky Rockies bullpen. The Rockies bullpen has the third-highest ERA in the league. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Braves put up six runs themselves tonight.
Don't count out the Rockies just yet, though, because they are facing a lefty. The reason I don't like the Braves on the run line (besides for the high amount of juice) is because the Rockies have an underrated lineup that thrives off lefty pitching. They will face lefty Max Fried tonight. No one in the league hits better than the Rockies against left-handed pitching. They are first overall with a .280 batting average against lefties this season and are fifth in OPS. They have a .700 OPS off righties and .771 OPS off lefties.
For this reason alone, I give the Rockies a shot at at least covering the run line, but I'd rather take the over. Max Fried has been excellent recently, but this Rockies lineup is sneaky and can blow up the scoreboard randomly, as they did in New York against Chris Bassitt. I'm expecting 3-4 runs from the Colorado dugout tonight, but I could see them getting even more.
Both offenses should find success tonight. The Braves bats have been hot and now square up against a shaky Jose Urena, who is coming off his worst outing of the season. The Rockies crush lefties, and Fried is due for a blow-up outing. The weather should also help us out here, as the wind is blowing out in Truist Park tonight, and it will be pretty hot. This line seems a bit lower because the books don't expect the Rockies to score at all, but they should get theirs in this spot. Take the over.
