San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Prediction, Picks, Odds: Can Blake Snell Continue Dominant Stretch?
The San Diego Padres held on yesterday to defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-5. The Padres didn't make it easy, allowing three runs in the eighth inning, making it a one-run game. But the Padres prevailed and won their 71st game of the season. The second half of the season has been dreadful for both teams. It's been so bad that the Dodgers lead the NL West by 20 games over these two franchises. However, the Padres are still fighting for an NL Wild Card spot, and the Giants aren't mathematically eliminated from an NL Wild Card spot either. Can the Giants earn a win tonight to help them get closer to the NL Wild Card?

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Prediction
The San Diego Padres will send out left-handed ace Blake Snell for tonight's game. Snell is 5-7 with a 4.24 ERA, but don't even bother looking at those numbers. He's been elite in the second half of the season. In the last 30 days, Snell has an xFIP of 2.76 and has struck out 34.5% of batters faced. He's also walked just 3.6% of batters and has done a very good job limiting extra-base hits recently. However, if a team makes contact against Snell, things can go south quickly. Snell has allowed 29.4% of line drives and has induced just 33.3% of ground balls when balls are batted into play. His strikeout rate has been so high that he can escape without damage. Tonight, the same thing should happen. The Giants have struck out 23.2% of the time against lefties. All but two players have struck out less than 20% of the time against lefties in the last 30 days. Snell should be able to earn that high rate of strikeouts, which would, in turn, allow fewer line drives. The Giants are still hitting a .219 ISO with a wOBA of .359, but to reach those numbers, again, the Giants would need to hit the ball in play.

On the other hand, Logan Webb will get the call for the Giants. The right-hander has an 11-7 record with a 3.33 ERA. Webb isn't racking up strikeouts like Snell, but he still has an xFIP of 3.88 with 62.2% of ground balls in the last 30 days. The Padres, however, are only hitting grounders 40% of the time and continue to work the count against righties, walking 12.7% of the time. The Padres are currently hitting a .180 ISO with a wOBA of .335 against righties, which isn't incredible, but it's good enough to score some runs against Webb to give insurance to Snell. Look for Manny Machado to break out tonight, as he has a .414 ISO with a wOBA of .475 against righties in the last 30 days. He's the hottest hitter against righties in the National League. Therefore, I'll take the Padres on the road in this one.
