The New York Yankees are 8-5 against the Tampa Bay Rays this season. Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees Prediction,
Tampa Bay is starting southpaw Jeffrey Springs. At home, Springs has a 2.18 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. Admittedly, Springs is coming off of his worst outing of the season but otherwise has been strong, and the Yankees could provide him a much-needed bounce back.
The Rays are 1-1 in his two starts against the Yankees this season, but he pitched very well in both. Most recently, Springs led the Rays to a 3-1 victory in the Bronx after throwing five innings, only allowing a single earned run off of just two hits. The Yankees' offense has been struggling lately, and I doubt we see them wake up against a pitcher that held them down when they were hot.
The Yankees are starting Domingo German. In his eight starts this year, totaling 42.1 IP, German holds a 3.19 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. One of his worst appearances of the season was just a couple of weeks ago against the Rays. German surrendered three earned runs in 4.2 IP, but the Yankees were able to string some runs off Tampa's bullpen to pick up a win in extras. While German could come back better by learning from his first matchup with the Tampa offense, I expect the Rays offense to do the same.
There's no questioning that the Yankees put up a spectacular performance in the first half of the season, comfortably positioning themselves at the top of the AL East. But now, Tampa sits just six games behind New York. Back Jeffrey Springs and the Rays on the money line at -130 to pick up another win against the Yankees.
