Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Prediction

The Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies will clash from the city of brotherly love on Friday night for game one of this NL East affair. The Phillies come into play holding a 3.5-game lead over the Brewers plus the tie break for the final Wild Card spot. They are in a great position to make the playoffs as we wrap up this season, but they will need to win a series like this one against Washington if they want to get in.

The Phillies are coming off a series win over the Marlins, but they enter play tonight with a sour taste in their mouth, blowing a one-run game last night in the ninth. Their bullpen has been the biggest issue the last few seasons, but it has been much better this year despite a bad outing last night. The Phillies, on paper, have one of the most lethal lineups in baseball, and when they get hot, this is a team that nobody wants to see come October. They will need to stay locked in and play their best baseball for the next few weeks.

Washington knew their season was over by the All-Star break. The Nats moved on from generational talent Juan Soto just a year removed from trading generational talent Trea Turner. The Nats have had an odd journey as they went from World Series champs to the bottom of the league in record time. The one positive is with all these trades they have been making, they should have some prospects that pan out. Tonight the Nats send southpaw Patrick Corbin to the mound. Opposing Corbin will be veteran Noah Syndergaard.

I am backing the Phillies on the -1 line and sipping on all that juice. Despite the like still being juicy, it is undervalued. This is Patrick Corbin. We are talking about one of the worst arms in baseball and one of the best fades for gamblers this season. The Phillies are coming off of a bad loss last night, and revenge will be on their minds in this one. This is a game that they have to have, and they will have it tonight.
