Chicago Cubs vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction

The Chicago Cubs signed Wade Miley, thinking he would significantly impact their club this season. Instead, he was on the Injured List for most of the year but made his return last week. It was a little too late, but Miley figures to be an asset next year for the club. He threw four innings in his first game back and had a 3.19 xFIP with 35.3% of strikeouts. He also earned over 55% of ground balls, and limited line drives to 11.1%. It's a tiny sample size, but it's good to see out of Miley.

Miley will face a Giants lineup that has struck out 27.9% of the time against lefties. Lewis Brinson, Evan Longoria, and David Villar have been hot against lefties. However, only Longoria has been able to limit the strikeouts between those three.  Bet $5, Get $100 on any MLB Moneyline today! Meanwhile, John Brebbia will get the start for the Giants. He's 6-1 with a 2.93 ERA on the season. However, in the last 30 days, Brebbia allowed a 5.84 xFIP with low-ground balls and strikeouts. He's also given up nearly 53% of hard contact when balls are put into play. Brebbia is way worse against lefties, allowing a .462 wOBA and ISO of .300 over his last 21 plate appearances against lefties.

However, the Cubs only have four lefties in their lineup. Ian Happ could do some damage, as he's hitting a .329 ISO and woBA of .369 against righties through his last 83 plate appearances. There won't be much scoring in this game, but there's more potential for offense out of the Cubs against Brebbia. Chicago hasn't performed at an elite rate but should get by with Miley on the mound.
