Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
The Diamondbacks and Dodgers open up game two of the series tonight in Chase Field at 9:40 EST. The Dodgers won without much resistance yesterday and are expected to do so again tonight as -200 favorites. Part of Yesterday's win can be attributed to Mookie Betts, who started the game 0-4 but cracked a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to seal off any hope for a comeback for the Diamondbacks. We are going right back to him tonight for a prop that has been money on Mookie this season.
Mookie Betts has been one of the best leadoff hitters this season, without question. Betts has a .349 OBP and has been hitting .278 in the leadoff spot. As a result, he has hit leadoff in every game this season, and Roberts has tons of confidence in Mookie hitting first in the lineup. What happens when you have a .349 OBP hitting leadoff on the best offense in the league? You guessed it; you score a ton of runs. Betts has scored 110 runs this season, which is second in the MLB behind Aaron Judge, who has 113. Betts has scored a run in 78 of his 122 games this season, which is suitable for a 64% hit rate.
All this is impressive from Betts, but it gets even better against the Diamondbacks. In 12 games played against the Diamondbacks this season, Betts has scored a run in 10 of them (83%). Overall, he has scored 16 runs in those 12 games. He has also started three games against Merrill Kelly this season and has scored in all three. He has tallied up six runs in the three games he has started against Kelly. This success is due to his average against Kelly and the batters behind him.
Betts is 7-18 with a .389 batting average and .450 OBP, meaning he gets on base against Kelly about every other at bat. Behind him is usually Trea Turner (6-14 off Kelly, .429 average), Freddie Freeman (5-12 off Kelly, .417 average), and Will Smith (7-16 off Kelly, .438 average). Freeman is the MLB batting leader as well. Not bad company to back you up on base. Betts also has incredible speed. He is one of the fastest runners on the team, which is another reason why he hits leadoff. All this to say, I expect him to do it again tonight. Betts has scored in every game against Kelly this season, and there's no reason to doubt he does it again tonight. The odds aren't too bad either, so take Betts to score tonight.
