San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
The Dodgers will be looking for win number 99 behind Dustin May tonight. May is 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA on the season. But remember, May made his first start in the second half of the season. In the last 30 days, May has had a 5.11 xZFIP with 12.2% of walks. However, he's also earned 23.3% of strikeouts while inducing 48.1% of ground balls. May has also limited line drives to 16.7% in the same 30 days while allowing just 24.1% of hard contact. Meanwhile, the Giants are hitting a .154 ISO and wOBA of .293 against righties over the last month. Only Joc Pederson has put up consistent numbers during this time frame for the Giants. San Francisco has struck out 27.5% of the time against righties and has walked just 6.4% of the time as a projected lineup. Dustin May will more than likely rack up the strikeouts against the Giants in this game.
On the other hand, Logan Webb will take the hill for the Giants. He's been excellent on an average team. He's 13-8 with a 2.88 ERA on the season. He's also got an xFIP of 3.45 over the last 30 days. Webb has induced 53.5% of ground balls while allowing just 20.9% of fly balls. He's also limited hard contact, as May has. The Dodgers are a much more significant threat offensively. However, May has only struggled with lefties over the last month, allowing a wOBA of .352. Lefties in the Dodgers lineup are hitting a combined .148 ISO with a wOBA of .285. They've struck out 28% of the time against righties. Those lefties include Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Joey Gallo, and Cody Bellinger. Only Freeman has been consistently hitting righties over the last 30 days. The other three haven't. Ultimately, Webb should be able to shut down this Dodgers lineup. He's been terrific against righties and will face three lefties in the Dodgers lineup that have struggled to even make contact with the ball. Give me the Under 7.5 in this matchup.
