The Toronto Blue Jays host the New York Yankees in game two of the series from Rogers Centre. Can the Blue Jays repeat their success from game one and stay hot? Ben Rajavuori answers.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Prediction, Pick, and Odds: Can Jose Berrios, Blue Jays Stay Hot?

The Toronto Blue Jays host the New York Yankees in game two of the series from Rogers Centre. The Yankees have clinched a playoff spot and most likely the AL east, while the Blue Jays are fighting for a playoff berth. The Jays are currently the first seed in the wild-card race, but there is no time for them to slack off. The Jays played game one with intensity, and they are potentially a game or two from clinching a playoff berth, depending on if the Orioles win. Can the Jays repeat their success from game one?

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Prediction

The Blue Jays will send out Jose Berrios for game two of the series. Berrios is 11-6 on the season with a 5.27 ERA. While his ERA may be high, he is a different pitcher in Rogers Centre. Berrios is 7-1 with a 3.98 ERA at home, while he is 4-5 with a 6.75 ERA on the road. Berrios has yet to pitch against the Yankees in Rogers Centre, but in his last outing against the Yankees, he went 6.2 innings while allowing just one earned run. In his lifetime against the Yankees roster, he is allowing a .213 batting average with a .611 OPS, and that includes his outings in Yankee Stadium, where he is notoriously worse.

There are not many other pitchers in the league with a more diverse home/road split than Berrios. The Blue Jays are 14-1 when Berrios starts at home for a 93% win percentage on the season, compared to just 8-7 when Berrios starts on the road. He has two starts at home against the Yankees in his career and is 2-0.

The Yankees will respond by sending Jameson Taillon to the bump. Taillon is 13-5 on the season with a 3.9 ERA and has been a dependent arm for the Yankees this season. However, he is worse on the road with a 4.42 ERA. This will also be his sixth start against the Blue Jays this season. The Blue Jays have seen a lot of Taillon, and while Taillon has done well against them to this point, the Blue Jays are a hot team at the moment and are in a different head space fighting for a playoff berth.

The Blue Jays have the third highest OPS in the league over the past two weeks, only behind the Mets and Yankees. Yes, the Yankees are ahead of them, but the Yankees have had much of that success in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are barely above .500 on the road this season at 38-37, while the Blue Jays are 44-32 at home. They are also batting behind their best home pitcher in terms of winning with a 14-1 Berrios. The Yankees also used a solid chunk of their bullpen yesterday, as Luis Severino only made it four innings. I'm backing a motivated and hot Jays team to win the series tonight, and help notch their spot in the postseason.
