ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction, Pick, Odds: How Will Tony Gonsolin Fare in Return?

The Los Angeles Dodgers will finish the regular season with a three-game series at home against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers currently have 110 wins on the season and are preparing for the MLB Playoffs. Los Angeles will be the first seed in the National League as they will win the NL West by over 20 games this season.

Los Angeles will try to get one of their ace pitchers, Tony Gonsolin, some reps before the playoffs to see where he's at. If Gonsolin looks good on the mound tonight, the Dodgers could slot him into a rotation spot after the bye week. The Dodgers won't have to play in the Wild Card and can sit things out until the Wild Card Series is over. Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Sunday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction

The Rockies will give Jose Urena his final start of the season tonight. Urena has gone 3-8 with a 5.24 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, Urena has had a 4.47 xFIP with 18.3% of strikeouts. He's also walked 8.3% of batters and has a BABIP of .349.

The right-hander has earned 50% of ground balls but has still given up 23.3% of line drives in the last 30 days. Lefties have hit a .381 wOBA in their last 67 plate appearances. They've also struck out under 15% of the time against Urena in those plate appearances.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers should have a balanced lineup heading into tonight's game. The projected lineup has hit 36.4% of grounders while nearly 22% of line drives. They've also been patient at the plate, earning 10.6% of walks. Los Angeles has a .176 ISO and wOBA of .328 against righties over the last 30 days, which isn't outstanding but still above average.

On the other hand, Tony Gonsolin will get the call for the Dodgers. Before he landed on the injury list, all he did was win. Gonsolin has a 16-1 record with a 2.10 ERA. He would've fought for the NL Cy Young if it weren't for the injury.

Anyway, he's facing a Rockies lineup that has hit 48.9% of grounders. This lineup has under 20% of line drives hit over the last 30 days, and they've hit an ISO of just .153 against righties. Ryan McMahon is the only hot hitter in the lineup for the Rockies. McMahon is hitting a .343 ISO and wOBA of .371 against righties over his last 73 plate appearances.

Gonsolin also isn't expected to go deep in tonight's game. They'll just want to get him on the mound to asses where he's had in his recovery for the playoffs. If Gonsolin can get through three to five innings against the Rockies, that'll be enough to earn the multiple-run win.
