New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction

Shane Bieber will take the mound for the Guardians tonight. Bieber already pitched in one playoff game this year, and it was a good one.

He nearly went the distance against the Tampa Bay Rays and picked up the win on the first Wild Card game after allowing just one run.

Bieber had a 13-8 record with a 2.88 ERA on the season. He's been just as good over the last 30 days, as he's holding a 3.05 xFIP with 21.7% of strikeouts and 1.6% of walks.

Bieber has induced close to 55% of ground balls. He's also limited line drives to 19.5% and has held fly balls to just 25.6% over the last month.

Still, Bieber has allowed some power to lefties over that same time frame, giving up an ISO of .164. The only two lefties hitting for power in the Yankees lineup are Anthony Rizzo and Oswaldo Cabrera.

As a projected lineup, the Yankees have an ISO of .185 with a wOBA of .314. These are incredible numbers but compared to what Cleveland is batting, it is.

Nestor Cortes will get the start for the Yankees. He's a lefty who finished the regular season with a 12-4 record with a 2.44 ERA.

In the last 30 days, Cortes has had a 3.66 xFIP with 32.2% of strikeouts. His walks can get high, and his ground ball rate is low. But he's also had a low BABIP of just .196 over the last month.

Cleveland's batting a .108 ISO with a wOBA of .288 against lefties over the last 30 days with their projected lineup. Only Oscar Gonzalez has an inflated ISO, and the bottom of the order for the Guardians are the guys getting on base more consistently.

The Guardians have also walked just 4.5% of the time and hit 24.8% of fly balls against lefties over the last 30 days.

Cleveland's struck out 23.4% of the time using that projected lineup, and with Cortes earning over 32% of strikeouts, the Guardians are likely in trouble.

Therefore, I've got the under hitting in tonight's matchup.
