Miami Hurricanes vs. Auburn Tigers Prediction

Miami is coming off an impressive first-round upset over USC and looks to pull off another upset today against Auburn. Isaiah Wong put up 22 points on 12 shot attempts, and he has undeniably been their key player. He will need another big game to knock off two-seed Auburn. Can Miami do it again and cover the six-and-a-half?

Auburn limped into the postseason, going 3-8 against the spread over their last eleven contests. They were the #1 ranked team for a while before losing four of their last nine games entering the tournament. Auburn was able to knock off Jacksonville State, but Jacksonville state was hanging in the game for a while. Even though Auburn won by 19, Miami is a different task, and Auburn will have to be locked in to cover.

Any offense with Isaiah Wong, Charlie Moore, and Kameron McGustu can pull off an upset. The dangerous shooters can frustrate the Auburn defense that shuts down the paint but has trouble defending the perimeter. Auburn is fourth in the nation in opponents' two-point field goal percentage, but they drop to 57th in three-point percentage. Auburn also leads the nation with 7.9 blocks per game. Miami will have to stay outside the paint most likely to have success, and I think they can. This Miami offense is dynamic enough to hang with Auburn.

The area of concern for Miami here is their defense. Auburn has the stronger defense overall, but one bright area was Miami holding USC to 66 points. While Miami can hang with Auburn on offense, if they can't defend the backcourt, it won't matter. Miami does have Sam Waardenburg, who should match up well against Walker Kessler. If Miami wants to pull off the upset, stopping Kessler will be necessary.

Miami's offense is versatile enough to hang in today no matter what. They have multiple scoring threats and don't rely on scoring in the paint. Seven points is too many here for a game I think will be decided in the last minute. Auburn hasn't been impressive down the stretch on the road. Take the points here.
