TBT Basketball Odds and Picks (Friday, July 22): Should Boeheim's Army or We Are D3 Be on Upset Alert?

The Wichita and Syracuse regionals will get underway today, as eight games will kick off as early as noon EST at the SRC Arena in upstate New York. With each of the regionals ending Monday, we’ve reached the halfway point on what has so far been an exciting week of TBT action.

Let’s take a closer look at today’s slate and see where the value remains.

India Rising vs. Boeheim's Army Prediction

India Rising vs. Boeheim's Army Where to Watch and Start Time

Time: 7:00 PM EST

Where to Watch: ESPN

Year number seven was the lucky one, as Boeheim’s Army finally cracked the code last season to win their first TBT title. While they have lost some of that quality from last year on their roster, they’ve picked up some studs in Rakeem Christmas, Marek Dolezaj, and Tyler Ennis. They’ll also have back-core pieces to that championship run in Deandre Kane and DJ Kennedy.

As for their opponents in this one, India Rising will be making their debut in TBT and will feature the world’s best Indian-origin basketball players from around the world. With the sport skyrocketing in popularity over the past few years, this team will showcase the best talent the country has to offer. It will be anchored by Stanford center Josh Sharma, who at 7’, is the team's most notable defensive threat around the rim.

While India Rising’s length and athleticism might make some waves early in this game, look for Boeheim’s Army to pull away late as one of the favorites of this tournament is once again on a mission.

We Are D3 vs. AfterShocks Prediction

We Are D3 vs. AfterShocks Where to Watch and Start Time

Time: 9:00 PM EST

Where to Watch: ESPNU

We jump up to the Wichita Regional for this one for another 1 vs. 8 matchups, as the top-seeded AfterShock take on the eight-seed We Are D3. After a few tries in this tournament, AfterShock finally broke through last summer, winning their region before falling short in the later rounds. Led by Conner Frankamp and Rashard Kelly, both returnees from last season, the AfterShock have big plans that don’t end in this region.

It’s also worth noting that AfterShocks is made up almost entirely of Wichita State alumni and typically has the closest thing to home court advantage when marching through this region each summer. Their overall record of 4-2 in TBT comprises almost entirely of their games played in their backyard.

We Are D3, on the other hand, have struggled to find any kind of consistency in TBT, going one-and-done in all three tournaments entered. They have, however, kept each of those games close, which is what I expect in this one. While I don’t expect an outright upset, I look for head coach Mike Rejniak to have the plan to keep this team in it late.
