The Boston Celtics enter this Eastern Conference match-up riding a five-game winning streak, which includes victories over the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Gordon Hayward finished with 39 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and Kemba Walker added 25 points, eight boards, three assists and two blocks for the Celtics in a 119-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jayson Tatum contributed 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, and Carsen Edwards chipped in 13 points off the bench for the Celtics.
The Charlotte Hornets are on a winning streak of their own, with victories over the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers.
Devonte’ Graham finished with 35 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals off the bench for the Hornets in a 122-120 win over the Pacers.
Terry Rozier added 22 points, five rebounds and four assists, Miles Bridges contributed 18 points and three boards, and PJ Washington had 16 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Hornets in the win.
In this upcoming matchup between the Celtics and Hornets, Walker returns home to the franchise that drafted him.
Walker was a first-round pick of the Charlotte Bobcats in 2011. He led the franchise in scoring over each of the last five seasons of his eight years playing for the team.
Walker is the career points leader (12,009) for the franchise. He averaged 19.8 points per contest with the Hornets, and he made three straight All-Star Game appearances between 2017 and 2019.
Through six games with the Celtics, Walker is leading the team in scoring averaging 26 points per game.
Rozier, now a member of the Hornets, will face the Celtics for the first time after four seasons in Boston.
This should be an enticing matchup. I believe Walker has a great chance at redemption when he returns to his former home, but the smart pick in this one is to take the Hornets plus the 6.5 points.
