One of our expert hoops handicappers gives his best picks for today's games

In Friday’s NBA action, Anthony Davis had 33 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and LeBron James contributed 23 points, 14 assists and six boards for the Los Angeles Lakers in a 130-127 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In other news, Luka Doncic had 30 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds in only 28 minutes of action to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 143-101 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Here are Today’s NBA Picks:

Miami Heat @ Philadelphia 76ers

  • The Philadelphia 76ers have won seven of their last eight home games against the Miami Heat (Statschecker).

The Sixers will look to make it four wins in a row when they host the Heat on Saturday.

Tobias Harris led Philadelphia with 26 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 115-104 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.

Joel Embiid added 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Ben Simmons contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists for the Sixers in the victory.

The Heat have put together a little winning streak of their own.

Winners of five in a row, Miami had 27 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals from Jimmy Butler in a 116-108 win over the Chicago Bulls.

Kendrick Nunn added 21 points and Goran Dragic had 16 points and seven assists off the bench for the Heat.

Miami is certainly no pushover and I believe the Heat have a legit shot at winning this basketball game in Philadelphia.

Feel confident taking the Heat plus the points in this matchup.

2u – Heat (+4) @ -105

San Antonio Spurs @ New York Knicks

What is going on with the San Antonio Spurs?

Now losers of eight straight games, the Spurs are in desperate need of a win when they travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks.

In their loss to the Sixers on Friday, DeMar DeRozan finished with 29 points and seven rebounds, and LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 17 points and six boards.

The Knicks also lost their last game to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Marcus Morris had 22 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals, Julius Randle and Frank Ntilikina had 17 points apiece, and rookie RJ Barrett chipped in eight points, seven boards, three assists and three steals in the loss.

New York has lost each of its last 12 games as underdogs against opponents who are on the second leg of back-to-back games.

Not only is that statistic telling, but the fact the Spurs have lost eight games in a row is mind-boggling.

Roll with the Spurs minus the 2 points on the road in this matchup.

1u – Spurs (-2) @ -105

New Orleans Pelicans @ Utah Jazz

The New Orleans Pelicans will travel to Utah to take on the Jazz in a Western Conference showdown.

The Pelicans, winners of three in a row, are coming off an impressive victory at Phoenix.

Brandon Ingram had 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists, JJ Redick added 26 points and five boards, and Jrue Holiday contributed 23 points, nine assists and four boards in a 124-121 win over the Suns.

The Jazz have won two games in a row, with their latest coming against the Golden State Warriors.

Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 30 points, four rebounds and four assists, and Mike Conley added 27 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Jazz in a 113-109 win.

The Pelicans have lost 12 out of their last 13 games after winning as underdogs, which means this young and inexperienced New Orleans team is due for a let-down in Utah on Saturday.

The home team has also covered the spread in five of the Pelicans’ last six games.

Take the Jazz at home in this one minus the 8.5 points.
