PICK OF THE DAY: 2u) 76ERS -0.5 @ -110
Los Angeles Clippers @ Philadelphia 76ers, 7:00 PM:
- Since the 2014-15 NBA season, the Philadelphia 76ers have a 4-1 against the spread record against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Wells Fargo Center. (Stat courtesy of Statschecker).
The reason we’re backing the 76ers
Despite a 33-21 overall record and the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers are one of the best teams in the NBA on their home floor.
Entering Tuesday night’s showdown with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Sixers have a 24-2 record at the Wells Fargo Center.
Philadelphia enters this matchup on a two-game winning streak, with its latest coming on Sunday night against the Chicago Bulls.
Joel Embiid had 28 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and three steals and Ben Simmons added 19 points, 10 boards and 10 assists in the 118-111 win.
The Clippers, who have a 37-16 overall record this season, are 15-11 on the road.
The 76ers are near perfect at home and the Clippers are closer to .500 away from Los Angeles.
Give me Philadelphia to win this game outright in this matchup.
(1u) Pelicans -2.5 @ -110
Portland Trail Blazers @ New Orleans Pelicans, 8:00 PM:
- The Portland Trail Blazers have a 5-10 against the spread record against the New Orleans Pelicans since the 2012-13 NBA season. (Stat courtesy of Statschecker).
The reason we’re backing the Pelicans
When New Orleans hosts the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, both Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram will make a return to the Pelicans lineup.
Despite missing their two stars, the Pelicans have won consecutive games against the Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers.
Jrue Holiday led the way with a team-high 31 points to go with 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals and Lonzo Ball added 15 points, seven assists and five boards in a 124-117 win on Saturday.
The Pelicans will have their work cut out for them when they square off against Damian Lillard, who has scored 40 or more points in six of his last 10 games.
Back on Nov. 19, the Pelicans handed the Blazers a 115-104 loss and I can expect much of the same in this one.
The Pelicans will be too athletic and too strong for Portland. Take New Orleans minus the 2.5 points.
(1u) Celtics +2.5 @ -110
Boston Celtics @ Houston Rockets, 9:30 PM:
- Since the 2016-17 NBA season, the Boston Celtics have a 63-37-2 against the spread record as an away team coming off 1 day of rest. (Stat courtesy of Statschecker).
The reason we’re backing the Celtics
The Boston Celtics enter this matchup against the Houston Rockets on fire.
The Celtics are riding a seven-game winning streak, which includes victories over the Miami Heat, Philadelphia and most recently the Oklahoma City Thunder.
On Sunday in Oklahoma City, Kemba Walker had a team-high 27 points and Jayson Tatum added 26 points and 11 rebounds in a 112-111 win.
The Celtics have a tough task ahead of them when they travel to Houston to take on the Rockets, but I believe Boston is the more balanced team to come out alive with the win.
I’ll take the Celtics lineup over Houston’s and I’ll take Brad Stevens over Mike D’Antoni.
Roll with Boston plus the 2.5 points here.
