Expert Handicapper Dan Canova is back with his NBA picks for Saturday's full slate of games
ANALYSIS

PICK OF THE DAY: (2u) Nets -3.5 @ -105

Brooklyn Nets @ Charlotte Hornets, 7:00 PM:

  •  Since the 2015-16 NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets have a 12-6 against the spread record in night games against the Charlotte Hornets. Stat courtesy of Statschecker.

The reason we’re backing the Nets

The Brooklyn Nets travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets on Saturday.

In Thursday’s match against the Philadelphia 76ers Caris LeVert finished with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Nets in a 112-104 overtime loss. Spencer Dinwiddie added 22 points, eight assists and five boards in defeat.

When the Nets and Hornets squared off back on Dec. 6, Brooklyn came away with a 111-104 victory in Charlotte. A few days later, the Hornets returned the favor and won at the Barclays Center. The Nets hold a 2-1 series lead this season and have more to play for in the final matchup of the year between these teams.

The Nets still have a chance to clinch a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. Take Brooklyn minus the 3.5 points in this one.

(1u) Hawks +6 @ -110

Dallas Mavericks @ Atlanta Hawks, 7:30 PM:

  •  The Atlanta Hawks have a 12-4 against the spread record against the Dallas Mavericks since the 2011-12 NBA season. Stat courtesy of Statschecker.

The reason we’re backing the Hawks

Second-year guard Trae Young had a career game against the Miami Heat on Thursday night.

Young finished with a game-high 50 points to go along with eight assists, two rebounds and two steals, and Kevin Huerter added 17 points, seven boards and four assists for the Hawks in an impressive 129-124 victory over the Heat.

The Hawks host the Dallas Mavericks, who are playing in the second game of a back-to-back after they came away with a 122-106 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday. Luka Doncic finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Mavericks.

I love the Hawks plus the six points in this one. I see a great matchup between two of the best young players in the NBA. The Mavs should still come out alive with the road win, but the Hawks and the points is the way to go here.

(1u) Bucks -8.5 @ -105

Philadelphia 76ers @ Milwaukee Bucks, 8:30 PM:

  •  Since the 2017-18 NBA season, the Milwaukee Bucks have a 41-24-2 against the spread record in night games at the Fiserv Forum. Stat courtesy of Statschecker.

The reason we’re backing the Bucks

The Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks clash in a showdown between two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

After losing to the Indiana Pacers before the All-Star break, the Bucks bounced back in a big way against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night. Reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 33 points and 16 rebounds to lead Milwaukee to a 126-106 victory over Detroit.

The Bucks are the pick here to get the better of the Sixers.

Although Philadelphia has one of the best home records in the NBA, the 76ers have an abysmal 9-19 record on the road. The Bucks, on the other hand, are just as good as the Sixers on their home court, as they have a 25-3 record at the Fiserv Forum.

Take the Bucks minus the 8.5 here.
