NBA Predictions: Dallas Mavericks vs. Charlotte Hornets Picks

Brian Good gives us two NBA picks for Wednesday

It's been tough to pinpoint value this NBA season with the amount of cancellations and postponements we've had due to COVID-19. Originally, I had picks for Hawks vs. Suns and Magic vs. Celtics, but both those games won't be played so we're circling back with two other plays.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Charlotte Hornets

Both these teams com in playing good basketball of late. The Mavs have won three straight and Luca Doncic seems to have found his stride after a somewhat slow start to the year.

As for Charlotte, they come into Wednesday’s game on a four-game win streak, beating the Hawks twice, along with the Pelicans and Hornets. Gordon Hayward seems rejuvenated since leaving Boston, and Terry Rozier and LaMelo Ball have been playing great basketball.

If Dallas was playing with the same team it’s been rolling out so far this season, I’d like the underdog Hornets to win outright. But, the Mavs are getting back a crucial piece on Wednesday as Kristaps Porzingis makes his season debut.

Porzingis has the potential to make a good Dallas team take the next step to contender. His return makes me look at a potential outright underdog bet and instead just take the points. With two talented teams taking the floor, both of which are playing well of late, I’m going to back the underdog.

Bet: Hornets +4 @ -107

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Sacramento Kings

This line sticks out as a little odd seeing as the Trail Blazers come in on a three-game win streak, and one of those wins was a 26-point victory over this same Kings team.

Both these teams have been pretty bad against the spread this season, but someone is going to have to cover and I’m going to pick the more talented roster. CJ McCollum has been a top-tier NBA player for a long time, but he seems to have taken the next step this year.

McCollum comes into Wednesday’s game averaging 28.1 points per game and shooting 44.5% from three-point range. He, Damian Lillard and Enes Kanter have been great so far, and I don’t love how Sacramento matches up.

Outside of De’Aaron Fox, I’m not a fan of this roster. Buddy Heild continues to be inefficient and former first-round pick Marvin Bagley isn’t even the best big on the team, as that distinction belongs to Richaun Holmes.

Bet: Trail Blazers -3.5 @ -105
