Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks
As far as the race for the best game of the 2020-21 NBA season is concerned, Sunday’s Round 1 between these two squads has to be up there.
Giannis Antetokounmpo reminded fools everywhere that he’s still the reigning two-time MVP, outdueling Kevin Durant, 49 points to 42. He also got a key block on KD, which is not something that happens often to the seven-footer with the silky smooth high release.
As a result of Giannis’ best game of the season, Milwaukee pulled to within 2.5 games of Brooklyn, who went into Monday trailing top-seeded Philadelphia by half a game. The top seed has to be considered valuable to the Nets for a few reasons. Primarily, they’ll get to avoid whichever of Philly or Milwaukee ends up in third until the conference finals.
More imminently, if the Nets finish first in the East, they’ll likely avoid a possible matchup with the Heat or Celtics in round one of the playoffs. With James Harden still seemingly not close to returning, that could actually make life difficult.
In other words, they’ll be gunning to make sure this outcome is different. Teams have struggled to take both ends of the baseball style series all year, with a sweep rate under 33 percent. That’s more than enough of a reason to take the road team here.
