Sean Highkin is back to break down his Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls pick

NBA Picks - Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls - 7 May 2021

Sean Highkin is back on OddsChecker with picks for three of today's NBA clashes.

Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls

Zach LaVine is finally back for the Bulls after missing the previous 11 games due to the league’s healthy and safety protocols. He looked rusty Thursday against the Hornets, scoring only 13 points in 27 minutes, but his return comes just in time for the Bulls to keep their play-in hopes alive down the stretch, and for him to build some chemistry with Nikola Vucevic ahead of the offseason. The Celtics team they’re facing in Boston is tough, but they’ll be without Jaylen Brown, who injured his ankle on Sunday against the Blazers. The absence of Brown is why the Bulls’ odds, while still positive, aren’t as high as they would be otherwise, but that makes a Bulls win, with the stakes as high as they are for the rest of their season, a decent low-risk gamble entering the final week of the regular season.

Houston Rockets vs. Milwaukee Bucks

The last time the Bucks and Rockets played, Milwaukee was without Giannis Antetokounmpo for most of the game after he suffered an early injury and Houston’s Kevin Porter, Jr. dropped a career-high 50 points in a Rockets win over the rest of the Bucks. That’s not going to happen this time—Antetokounmpo will be back in the lineup alongside Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton. The Bucks are just half a game behind the Brooklyn Nets for the second seed in the Eastern Conference (they’ve beaten Brooklyn twice in the past week), while the league-worst Rockets have decidedly nothing to play for. The line on this game indicates a blowout is expected, and there’s good reason for that. Don’t overthink it, just go with the Bucks and take the points.

The pick: Bucks -16.5 @ -110 (Click here to bet)

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers

Suddenly, this game means a whole lot when it comes to the tight Western Conference playoff race. The Lakers and Blazers enter Friday in a tie in the standings following the Lakers’ Thursday night blowout loss to the Clippers, with one non-play-in spot between them. Should it come down to it (and with how close the race is, it very likely will), this game will decide the tiebreaker, given that each team has won once in their previous matchups against each other on the season. LeBron James has already been ruled out, and Anthony Davis’ status is uncertain after he exited the Clippers game with back spasms. The Lakers are underdogs against a hot Blazers team, who are coming off a 5-1 road trip and have seemingly righted the ship following a disastrous late-April stretch. Davis’ uncertain availability in the game makes it hard to take the Lakers to win outright, but between this game being essentially a must-win for them and the Blazers’ occasional complacency in games like this, at least taking the shorthanded Lakers to cover and make it a close game is a good compromise.
