NBA Playoff Picks - Tuesday, June 1
This series has been as advertised: two evenly matched teams likely to go the full seven.
The only question left is how we get there.
After Portland took Game 1 on the road with a late push over the cold-shooting Nuggets, Denver won Game 2 handily before emerging victorious in Portland by five points on Thursday night. Then, on Saturday, the Nuggets showed little defensive fire from the outset, eventually going down 20 within the opening minutes of the second half, en route to a 15-point loss.
Now, the series returns back to Denver, where the Nuggets are favored in what is essentially a pick’em game. The spread deserves to be that close, with the more consistent Blazers looking like the team with the higher ceiling.
As it has the entire series, this will likely come down to whether Denver can hit from the outside. In their two losses, the Nuggets have shot 30.6 and 29.5 percent from deep. In their two wins, it’s been 42.9 and 52.6. They were more or less the same caliber of 3-point shooting team both home and away this season, so that part isn’t likely to matter.
This is as much of a toss-up as they come. Go with your gut. Mine says to trust the MVP at home in a must-win game.
