Jazz vs. Clippers Prediction - Game 4
Can the Clippers pull back level in the series or will the Jazz take a lead here.
On the whole, Utah should still feel really good about where they’re at.
The Jazz have lost just twice in the playoffs, and once was to Memphis when they didn’t have their emerging superstar, Donovan Mitchell. They had rolled off six straight wins since that first game until Saturday night, when they dropped a road game to the Clippers, 132-106. LA had its backs against the wall and played like it. No big deal, right?
Except it seems like it is. It’s not just that Utah scored the least points they have in a month, or just that it was the most they’ve given up all season, or even the fact that both things happened in the same game. It’s that for the first time all season, Utah got its doors blown off even though they played their way and were actually successful in executing the key staple of their offense.
Anyone who has watched the Jazz all year knows what they are: a team that relies on its penetrating guards and elite roll man to collapse the defense, and then feasts on the 3-point shots its creates. Well on Saturday, the Jazz took 44 threes and made 19 of them for a conversion rate of 43.2 percent, higher than their league-leading playoff number. Donovan Mitchell also had his way, scoring 30 points on 24 shots.
Even so, the Jazz were no match. Maybe the script flips if and when Mike Conley returns, but there’s no telling when that will be or how he’ll look when he’s back. The Clippers also aren’t going to hit 53 percent of their deep attempts again, like they did in Game 3.
But this series feels like a new one after Utah somewhat dominated Games 1 and 2. The line is larger than you’d like, but at the same time, the Clippers deserve it after their last performance.
