Atlanta Hawks vs. Milwaukee Bucks Prediction: Game 2 Picks
Can the Hawks possibly go up 2-0, on the road, with a trip to the NBA Finals at stake? Let’s take a look
Atlanta Hawks vs. Milwaukee Bucks Prediction
There is what you believe, and then there is what you can prove.
Coming off a 116-113 road win behind a career high 48 points from their burgeoning superstar point guard, it may be easy to believe that the Hawks are a team of destiny.
When it comes to Hawks vs Bucks predictions, they weren’t picked by many to make the playoffs let alone make it this far in the first place, nor were they picked to beat the Knicks in the first round, and then they certainly weren’t favored against a Philly team with a relatively operational Joel Embiid.
Because they’ve overcome all of those odds, believing that they can go up 2-0 on the Bucks – or at least keep it close enough to cover a fairly plump spread – isn’t that difficult. They are, after all, 9-4 in the playoffs, both on the court and against the spread.
But they also have a barely positive scoring margin of plus-18, good for 6th best in the postseason. That’s quite a notch down from the Bucks, who are a plus-59, and who themselves are 8-4 over their dozen games.
Obviously this is a largely due to their dominance of Miami in the first round, but then again, how much of that showing was due to Milwaukee being good as opposed to Miami being bad? They also beat a Nets team that had a healthy Durant for all seven games and one of their two other stars for most of the series.
Even on Wednesday night, the Bucks had a seven-point lead with under four minutes to go, and were it not for some fortuitous bounces that allowed the Hawks to corral some key offensive rebounds, we might be talking about a very different result.
All this is to say that even though it feels like the Hawks are unbeatable right now, the odds are that Tare Young will not have another 48 points and that Khris Middleton will not go 6-for-23 once more.
The Bucks might well go down in this series, but it won’t be without a fight. They’ve had several blowouts in this postseason already, so we know they’re capable. Count on another big win here.
