As the line stands for a pivotal Game 5 in the Bucks Hawks series, it’s pretty clear that odds makers have basically shrugged.

On one sideline, we have Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was in many ways the last alpha standing in these playoffs. He went down in a heap after playing 24 minutes in Game 4, and there’s no telling whether he’ll play or what status he’ll be in.

On the other sideline, we have Trae Young, who missed Game 4 altogether and still watched his team utterly dominate a Milwaukee squad that looked like they had figured the Hawks out.

It’s important to note that most of that dominance occurred before Giannis went down with an injury. The fact that Atlanta could put on that level of hurt without their engine on the court would seem to bode well for their chances in Game 5, regardless of whether Trae Young plays or not.

On the other hand, this was the first time all postseason that the Bucks were playing with house money against a strong opponent (with all due respect to Miami, who just had nothing going all series). It felt like a game the Bucks were never in because they knew they could lose and still win the series comfortably.

Milwaukee was also undefeated at home until Game 1 of this series, when Atlanta overcame a late 7-point deficit to shock the Bucks on their own floor. To expect the same level of dominance without their best player might be a stretch, but it’s also not like the home team has nothing left. Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday have ample experience playing big roles in big games, and we Middleton come up big during a very similar circumstance in the bubble last season.

The Bucks have survived a few gut checks already against Brooklyn, and their nerves are as steely as they can possibly be. Keep an eye on the injury report for sure, but based on all that we don’t know right now, the Bucks have to be the pick.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks Prediction: Milwaukee Bucks -2 @ -105
