NBA Parlay Breakdown

I decided to run it back again today after a successful multi-team parlay yesterday, where we backed the underdogs. Three teams, all expected to lose by the experts in Vegas, yet we're asking them to cover the spread and get our week off to a solid start. Let's dive right in.

The Charlotte Hornets are 0-4 in November and are on the second night of a back-to-back at the Staples Center, this time facing the Los Angeles Lakers. A 14-point loss to the Los Angeles Clippers will hurt the Hornets, and their confidence is likely at a low. However, there's no better time to face this Lakers team as injuries continue to tighten their grip around the roster. Trevor Ariza, Talen Horton-Tucker, LeBron James, and Kendrick Nunn will all sit out this contest, while the Lakers sweat on the availability of Anthony Davis, who enters the day as questionable. The Lakers' form is also doubtful, with the team currently on a two-game losing streak and players questioning the teams' effort levels in the media. With such an unpredictable matchup, we're taking the Hornets to cover a +11.5 point spread while understanding a win isn't totally out of the question.

New York's hot start to the season has cooled off somewhat, with their record for November now sitting at 1-3, while the Philadelphia 76ers have discovered their swagger and have ripped off six straight wins. With the 76ers current hot streak, we can discount the Knicks' win over them earlier in the season and focus on momentum and matchups. The Sixers continue to be shorthanded, with Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons, Matisse Thybulle, and Isaiah Joe all out, while Danny Green is questionable entering the day. However, most of these players have missed most, is not all, of this current win streak. The Knicks will make a game-time decision on Kemba Walker's availability; however, the 76ers would likely target him on defense anyway. Philadelphia current rank 4th in net rating and first in offensive rating, making them a fearsome opponent when you're struggling for consistency; we're asking the Knicks to keep things within 12.5 points against Doc Rivers men as we look to put our faith in the underdogs.

Finally, we have the New Orleans Pelicans against the Dallas Mavericks. New Orleans has one win in ten attempts and has struggled to stay afloat while Zion Williamson recovers from a foot injury sustained during the summer. The Pelicans rank in the bottom five for both offensive and defensive rating and are 29th in net rating after ten games, despite their roster revamp during the off-season. To make matters worse for New Orleans, Brandon Ingram makes the day questionable, while the Mavericks only miss Maxi Kleber for the contest. There's no doubt in my mind that New Orleans will fall short tonight. The question is, can they cover a +12-point spread? Ignoring their colossal loss to Golden State, the Pelicans have lost by 13, 12, 6, 3, 3 in their previous five contests, which makes me confident heading into tonight's matchup.

Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets Same Game Parlay

Game Time: 9:00 PM ET

  • Miami Heat +4.5
  • Over 205 points
  • Odds:+181

Heat vs. Nuggets odds

Don't let my choice of spread bet fool you. I slightly favor the Miami Heat in tonight's contest, but again, it's better to cover all bases. With a top 5 offense and defense, the Miami Heat remains one of the best teams in the NBA, as displayed by their position in 2nd for net rating. However, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets are a stern opponent and, despite their indifferent form, won't go into this game with fear in their hearts. Miami's job has been made easier by the news that Michael Porter Jr won't participate in tonight's game as he joins Jamal Murray on the injury list. Miami is at almost full strength and will look to capitalize on their depth and star power against Michael Malone's men.

Phoenix Suns vs. Sacramento Kings Same Game Parlay

Game Time: 10:00 PM ET

  • Sacramento Kings +9
  • Under 222.5 points
  • Odds: +167

Suns vs. Kings odds

The Suns are on a four-game winning streak and are undefeated in early November. Ironically, their last loss came against the Sacramento Kings in what was a 3-point defeat. The Kings, on the other hand, are seemingly going from win to lose, win to loss, which would favor them to repeat their previous performance against Phoenix again tonight. The Suns' tough start to the season see's them ranking lower than expected in offensive and defensive rating, yet their roster is essentially unchanged; however, the absence of DeAndre Ayton will hurt the Suns heading into tonight's matchup. The Kings like to play a fast-paced brand of basketball and have discovered a defensive identity in recent weeks. We're taking them to compete against Phoenix while not necessarily winning the game, meaning a +9-point spread will give us plenty of wiggle room on both sides of the result.
