Phoenix Suns vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction
All good things must come to an end.
We saw that last night, when Golden State’s season-long seven-game winning streak was snapped in Charlotte. It’s a reminder that even the best must lose eventually.
Thanks to that defeat, the longest active winning streak in the NBA, and the longest of the season, now belongs solely to the Phoenix Suns. The defending Western Conference champs have now won eight straight after they throttled the Rockets in Houston by 26 points. It was their second straight blowout following a 25-point victory in Memphis.
Now, their mini three-game road trip ends with a team that is back home for the first time in over a week. The Wolves had themselves an interesting four-game stint away from Minnesota, losing to the Grizzlies by seven and the Warriors by 13 before demolishing the Lakers by 24 points. They followed that up with a 27-point loss to the Clippers, confirming that the big Laker win was more about LA’s struggles than anything the Wolves had figured out.
This line plays heavily on the fact that this is the end of the trip for Phoenix and the second night of a back to back, with a loss due to come at some point eventually. Even so, this line doesn’t pay nearly enough respect to last season’s second best team both in the standing and against the spread.
The Suns were only 15-15-1 as a road favorite last year, but they’re 4-0 with that designation so far this year. Take the gift that is this line and give the points away from home.

The madness that is the 2021-22 New York Knicks continues
The latest entry into their upside-down ledger: a loss in Charlotte in which returning former All-Star Kemba Walker nearly outscored the Hornets by himself in the first quarter en route to a 16-point Knicks advantage, only to watch as he and his fellow starters yet again wasted away the lead in the second half. Like clockwork, the bench nearly brought them back, taking a few fourth quarter leads, but for the second straight night, New York faltered down the stretch.
The Knicks have now dropped five of their last seven games and are just 2-6 in their last eight against the spread. Derrick Rose spoke yesterday about how head coach Tom Thibodeau installed more set plays for the starters at practice – a telltale sign of a team trying to find its identity. As Julius Randle said after Friday’s loss, they don’t have a lot of chemistry right now.
Randle himself has been a big part of the problem along with his co-leading man, RJ Barrett. Among 53 players averaging at least 30 minutes and who hold at least a 22 usage rate, both Knicks rank in the bottom 15 in effective field goal percentage.
Now they face the only team to complete a wire to wire win against them this season. Indiana is 5-2 in their last seven games, including that win against the Knicks, with the 8th ranked net rating in the league over that time. New York’s negative 5.4 rating during that time, meanwhile, ranks 22nd.
In other words, the Knicks shouldn’t be giving points in this game, even at home, and even with two days off. That said, if one thing has characterized the Thibodeau Knicks, it’s a bend but don’t break mentality, and to expect a strong performance when you least expect it.
That’s right where New York is right now, and you can count on their best effort of the season as they return home for a three-game stand before the schedule gets tougher.
It may not make sense on paper, but when has anything involving the Knicks this season. Give the points at home.
