Nuggets vs. Mavericks Prediction

The NBA returns Monday night and we have a pretty loaded slate tonight.

The game I am focusing on tonight will be a Western Conference battle between the 18-16 Denver Nuggets and the 18-18 Dallas Mavericks. The Nuggets have had to deal with injuries all season. The Nuggets got bad injury news with star guard Jamal Murray, finding out he would be out for an extended period of time, but the news got worse when star forward Michael Porter Jr. went down with a season-ending injury.

The Nuggets, led by last year’s MVP Nikola Jokic, have been able to stay above the .500 mark, including three straight road wins.

The Mavericks saw some turnover coming into this season as they fired former head coach Rick Carlise and landed former NBA star Jason Kidd as their HC. Kidd has done a good job so far with the Mavericks as they have had to deal with missing star Luka Doncic for multiple games, but he returned last night after an extended absence on the COVID list. The Mavericks will be without star forward Kristpas Porzingis tonight, who also just hit COVID protocols today. This will be a great battle tonight as the Nuggets are on the final game of their four-game road trip.

In this game tonight, the play I am turning to is to back the home team in the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks come into this game getting their star back, and I believe they will be the better team tonight. The play of Jalen Brunson has made headlines, as he was great in the absence of Doncic.

The Nuggets are on their final game of a four-game road trip, and while I think this team is a very good bunch, this is a tough spot for the Nuggets tonight. The likelihood of the Nuggets winning all four games on a road trip is very low to me.

The Mavericks do not have their second-best player in Kristapas Porzingis, and yet they are still a three-point favorite tonight. The line is telling the tale here in this game. Despite the absence KP in the lineup, we didn't see the line move too much.

The Mavericks will need their role players to step up for them tonight to help Luka out. Tim Hardway Jr. and Jalen Brunson are guys who have really done that of late, and they should do so again tonight.

One thing to watch for in this game is how the Mavericks will guard Nikola Jokic. Jokic is one of the best overall players in the game, and by far the greatest weapon the Nuggets have. We should see some different looks come his way tonight, including double teams. I believe the game plan by Jason Kidd will be sharp in this spot. There are too many signs pointing me in the direction of the Mavericks, so I will be riding the home favorite on the moneyline.
